Bali Excellence Villas

Villa Leha-Leha takes its name from the Javanese word for peace, day-dreaming, relaxing, or being empty-minded while lying prostrate and gazing at the sky! It’s an appropriate title for this enchanting four bedroom retreat, complete with swimming pool and plunge pools, nestled on the edge of a steep sided valley through which Bali’s sacred Ayung River wends it way on the final stage of its journey to the sea.

Living Pavilion

The large two-storey living pavilion incorporates two living areas on two different levels.
The downstairs open-sided living room is encompassed by fish ponds and a timber deck. This breezy raised pavilion presides over the pool and garden and its marble floor is gracefully furnished with an Oriental rug, lazy chairs, sofa, standard lamp and a coffee table. A 42-inch, flat screen, multi-channel TV, DVD, CD player and radio stereo system is discretely housed within a wooden cabinet, and there is also a comprehensive collection of videos, books and games. The decor is enhanced by some colorful local artwork and artifacts; a ceiling fan helps to keep the area cool and blinds can be dropped for privacy.

A guest washroom is located downstairs, just off the living room

The upstairs lounge is accessed from the dining room, via a sliding door that leads onto a Palimanan stone staircase. This peaceful lounge is another wonderful, breezy open-air space. It features a teakwood floor under a soaring thatched roof, and is furnished with wide opium daybeds, a pair of leather Kartini chairs and an Oriental rug. Boasting a splendid view of the garden and the river valley extending to the ocean, this is a great area for chilling out and relaxing with a book. Every need is considered with the additional provision of a ceiling fan.

Work Room

An all-glass Cathedral window extends from the roof to the ground floor, and separates the upstairs lounge from the air-conditioned work room. This delightful study presents a teak desk with a computer and internet access for the use of the guests. An eye-catching painting adorns one wall, and a long Oriental rug rests on the warm timber floor, together with leather-upholstered Kartini chairs and a bookcase full of magazines. To one side of the work room is an open-air stone terrace surrounded by a balustrade.

Dining Room

The air-conditioned dining room is linked to the downstairs Living Room by two sets of Palimanan stone steps. With a marble floor, and large glass sliding doors on three sides, the room has an open feeling; it is furnished with a dining table for eight, and fitted with a glass-fronted teak cabinet.

Kitchen

The small but well-equipped air-conditioned kitchen is conveniently positioned next to the dining room. It features a marble service counter, marble work tops and teakwood wall cabinets. On the far side of the kitchen is an attractive water court, with large stepping stones across the fish pond. Carved water-spouting griffins create a serene ambiance with the constant sound of running water.

Bedrooms

Villa Leha-Leha is equipped with four self-contained bedroom suites, each located in private thatched pavilions and each one linked to its own indoor bathroom and private outdoor shower. Two of the bedrooms boast private plunge pools, and two are supplied with music systems. Each marble-floored, air-conditioned bedroom is furnished with a queen-size four poster canopied bed, a chair, bedside tables and lamps, while bold local artwork adorns the walls. Dressing areas, with fitted cupboards and walls mirrors, lead into marble bathrooms each complete with twin washbasins, a bathtub, an indoor shower and a toilet hidden behind a teak door. Each bathtub is positioned beside a picture window with doors opening into a small private walled garden. These doors can be opened to create an alfresco bathing experience, and there is also an open-air shower in each of the private gardens.
A fifth bedroom (without en-suite bathroom), furnished with up to four extra single beds, is ideal for children.

Garden and Swimming Pool

The beautiful landscaped gardens of Villa Leha-Leha are planted with sweet scented flowering shrubs and tropical trees. The free form, infinity-edge swimming pool overhangs the river valley and is flanked by a stone pool deck. At one end of the pool are some sunken stone bar stools flanking a pool bar with an attractive ironwood shingle roof.

Location

Quiet and safe, Villa Leha-Leha is ideally situated in a rural setting five minutes from Sindhu Beach and the historical village of Sanur. The nearby Sanur-Kusumba by-pass, which extends from Seminyak to East Bali, positions the villa within easy driving distance of most of Bali’s tourist attractions. The diversity of Bali presents everything from diving, cruising and trekking, to adventure sports and theme parks. Horse riding takes place just a few kilometers away at Saba stables, and three of the best golf courses in the world are located within easy driving distance. The Villa Surya Damai is primarily a private family house, used very regularly by the owners, however it is available for short-term rental for exclusive holidays.

The Villa is suitable for visitors with or without children and whilst the property is designed with a central living area for all to enjoy, there are sufficient additional living spaces to allow privacy whenever needed.

Nestled amidst lush rice fields and situated alongside a river, The Villa offers both serenity and seclusion in a uniquely luxurious tropical garden setting.

Incorporating the best of both traditional and modern Balinese style, the living and dining areas open onto lush gardens surrounding an elegant 18m pool. Five large guest suites accommodate up to 14, and feature exquisite Balinese furninshings as well as state of the art entertainment equipment.

Virtually every room in this stunning villa offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, from the verdant rice terraces to palm-fringed river views and spectacular tropical sunsets.

Location & Settings

Villa Surya Damai is situated on the edge of the village of Umalas in a plot that extends to 2850 sq m. The gardens enjoy a 60m palm-fringed river-frontage and overlook the rice fields.

Umalas is a peaceful and quiet village, containing a number of villas as well as the famous riding stables. A pleasant 15 minute walk across the rice paddies brings you to Batu Belig beach, and some of Bali’s best-known beachside restaurants.

The Villa is located only a few minutes drive to the fashionable Seminyak area featuring a fine selection of boutiques, antique shops and some of the highest-quality delicatessan shops and bakeries in Bali.

Style

Our villa which is one of the newest in Bali, having been completed in January 2003, was designed and constructed by the well-known company, DG Jones, builders of the Four Seasons Hotel in Bali as well as a number of other villas which are the highest standard on the island.

The property is designed around a traditional Balinese-style open-sided living room that leads to the pool deck and 18m pool. There is a master suite consisting of bedroom, bathroom and sitting room (air-conditioned) and two verandahs, a principal guest suite, and three further bedrooms, all with private, outdoor-garden bathrooms.

We also have an upper-floor verandah-style living room overlooking the whole property as well
benefiting frm panoramic views of the river and rice-fields. There is a separate formal dining
room overlooking the pool and the rice-paddies as well as an informal outdoor dining-deck next to the pool.

The gardens are extensive and provide space, serenity and views that complement the atmosphere of this traditionally-styled and private compound.

The spacious Villa Surya Damai contains 5 air-conditioned bedrooms, with comfortable sleeping arrangements for 14 guests. 3 of the rooms contain king-sized, antique 4-poster beds. The remaining 2 rooms each contain 2 oversized twin beds and 2 roll-away beds.

All rooms feature the highest quality furnishings and curtains, extremely comfortable mattresses, and views across the compound.

The formal dining room accommodates up to 12 people, and an additional informal dining table seats 8-10.

The pool deck has 6 sun-loungers and umbrellas to suit. Additional loungers are also available.

Last but not least, we have a championship tennis court (hard-court surface).

Dining

Our staff prepares a full range of breakfast including plenty of fresh fruit, some of which is home-grown!

We have a state-of-the-art coffee machine so all requirements can be catered for.

We have an excellent cook who is capable of preparing a wide variety of Asian and Western dishes. A menu selection is provided but we would recommend discussing the options with the cook for a more personal touch.

The sources of fresh food in Bali are wide and extensive in terms of locally grown aswell as imported varieties.

Staff

We have an in-house villa manager who oversees the work of all the staff as well as arranging all other services such as restaurant bookings, trips, tours, any shopping that is needed etc. 2 additional ladies reside at the villa and are available at all times. Laundry is done in-house and dry-cleaning is sent out. Additional staff are made available at the villa to complement the number of people staying at any one time such that rooms are maintained in perfect condition at all times. 3 security staff attend the house and grounds at night.

This beautiful, very spacious villa on the edge of Sebali, a pretty village just outside Ubud, is a luxurious haven from which to enjoy both the peace and the delights of Bali. The views from the house are of typical rice terraces and, in the distance, spectacular Mt Agung and the dramatic mountains towards the north of the island. We have been careful to be environmentally sensitive – green – with many eco-features including solar power and water heating, and a beautiful garden with organically grown fruit trees.

Villa Sebali is just about 10 minute’s drive from the centre of Ubud, the cultural and artistic heart of Bali. All on good roads, half the drive is through typical villages, beautiful rice fields and tropical forest, and half past interesting art galleries, antique and craft shops, and restaurants. Ubud is about one and a quarter hours drive from the airport.

The house is built round three sides of a grassy, flower-ringed courtyard, with the fourth side an infinity pool looking down over a cascade of lotus and water-lily ponds to the orchard. It has four very special bedroom suites and combines the luxury of air-conditioned bedrooms with the delight of open air living.

There is a fully equipped kitchen, a library/games room and a table tennis room.

We have included many environmentally-friendly features, from the thick, alang-alang roofs which provide wonderful insulation, to solar powered water heating and electricity systems, and natural waste water treatment.

The garden is lavishly planted with many sweet-smelling trees and flowers. Beside the pool is a pretty balé, a traditional grass-roofed pavilion for shaded relaxation, while below it a path winds through the lotus ponds down to the orchard with its wide range of tropical fruit trees. As these mature, guests will be able to pick their own choice of fruit….

The villa is managed locally by the incomparable Rita Dewi and has four full time staff, two in the house and two gardeners/security. Our house staff will prepare your breakfasts, maintain the house and rooms immaculately, and be on hand to aid and advise you.

There are many things to do and see – artistic, sporting, cultural, spiritual and purely self-indulgent – within easy reach.

But also, green, quiet, fragrant Villa Sebali is a wonderful place just to be.

Note : Villa Sebali is not suitable for very young children because of the many ponds and the pool. It can be made wheelchair accessible, however.

The house is approached by a tree fern-shaded path leading from the front courtyard with space for three or four cars, to a bridge over a lotus pool and into the main building

Dining area: spacious and equipped for up to 12 at table. It is open to the garden at one side and has two steps down to the living area.

At the side is the Kitchen: fully equipped with large fridge-freezer and permanent chilled drinking water.

Living area: an enormous room open to the garden with ample seating and many art works.

All the above areas have rich terra-cotta coloured floor tiles, a lovely combination of warmth for the eye and coolness for the room.

Guest cloakroom and WC

Stairs lead from the living area to Sky bedroom suite: vast, with a fantastic cathedral ceiling and flower-edged terraces facing all four points of the compass with views to die for! A large dressing area leads to the bathroom which is partly open air with wash basin, WC, bath, separate shower and a small garden. One of its four terraces is covered and has seating for relaxing and admiring the garden and view.

From the living area a lobby leads to the south wing with Forest bedroom suite: equipped with twin beds which can also be joined to make one king size bed. The dressing area leads to the shower room with wash basin and separate WC. A door leads through to the

Library: an enchanting rotunda which can also be reached directly by steps from the garden. Equipped with flat screen TV, books, games and comfortable seating, this room can either be used as a sitting room for the Forest Bedroom, or as a communal room for all guests.

Again from the living area, a short path leads over the lotus pool to the independent Sunset bedroom suite: This is another generous room with cathedral ceiling and a queen sized bed. The spacious dressing area leads through to the bathroom with basin, WC, shower and garden. It has its own pretty patio.

Across the courtyard and opposite the library is another independent building, Sunrise bedroom suite: As the name suggests, this huge room with its magnificent ceiling and king size bed faces east, towards Mt Agung, and has double doors opening onto a raised deck shaded by a flower-festooned pergola. Steps lead down to the pool and courtyard. There is a big dressing area leading through to the biggest bathroom of all which, again, is partly open to the sky and has its own garden. It is equipped with bath, basin, shower and separate WC.

All the bedrooms have mosquito nets and full air-conditioning, though the house is designed to optimize cooling: all the rooms are shaded by the deep eaves of the alang-alang roofs, and big windows allow refreshing air to flow through freely. There are ceiling fans in all rooms including the living areas.

Additional beds can be supplied, and there is also a very large comfortable daybed in the living area which would make an excellent extra bed. Guests who like the idea of sleeping under the stars could even sleep on the balé!

The Basement is reached by steps from the garden and is a very large room with table tennis table and space to store extra furniture, suitcases etc.

Staff accommodation is situated under the front garden, cleverly cooled by its grass roof. It has its own entrance from the front courtyard car parking area.

The villa is built on almost 3000sq.m. (3/4 acre) so the gardens are generous and have been beautifully planted by a top professional and are maintained on organic principles.

Beyond the courtyard and pool, a series of voluptuous ponds echoing the neighbouring rice fields and planted with lotus and water lilies cascades down to the orchard, and pretty paths wind between them. The orchard is planted with, among other fruits: avocados, pineapples, mangoes, papayas, bananas, jack fruit, durian, nutmeg, lemons and limes. There is also a herb garden for keen cooks.

The infinity swimming pool is 12m. x 4m. plus a side sitting area. For relaxing there are garden reclining chairs and big sunshades as well as the pretty balé. There is a built-in barbeque adjacent to the balé for al fresco cooking and dining.

Staff

Villa Sebali’s local manager is Rita Dewi, a famous Balinese dancer. She has excellent English and can help with any problems and special requests. She will be sure to come to the villa to meet you and ensure that all is well.
Our senior house staff person is Made (pronounced Madé ) a well educated young man who also has very good English. As well as having considerable hotel experience, Made has run a tour company for individual travelers in Bali so can help with suggestions and plans for things to see and do.
His assistant is Ayu, a delightful young woman who also has some English. If your party is very large, we can employ extra staff from the village.

Catering

Breakfasts – eggs, toasts, fresh fruit and juices, tea and coffee – are included in the rental and can be served in the dining room or in your room.
Lunch and dinner are not included, but we can arrange for a cook to come in, or advise on restaurants which can deliver, at your cost. And there are dozens – maybe hundreds – of cafes and restaurants within a 20 minute drive of Villa Sebali, from the very modest to top level.
Alternatively, you may use the fully equipped kitchen (hob, oven, microwave) and the barbeque to cook for yourselves (the staff may well be willing to help out too). There is an excellent supermarket just 10 minutes away which has a huge range of foods, both European and Asian, and an organic section. For the adventurous, the market in Ubud provides all manner of local produce.
There is also an excellent health food shop and cafe in Ubud, just off the main street (Jalan Raya), called Bali Buddha.

Entering the villa, the staff quarter is set on the corner of a large covered parking separated from the villa area. Separated by an isle with a water fountain, each of the first two buildings is featuring one bedroom nicely set in cottage style each with private entrance. “Villa Samudra Raya” is set in a quiet compound less than 300 meters from the main road in the center of Seminyak, the area between Legian/Seminyak and kerobokan. The international airport is about 15 minutes away.
Many interesting shops are right on the main street near the villa; it’s about 1km to the beach, and a few minutes by car bring you to an increasing number of fashionable restaurants including Café Warisan, Ku de Ta, Hu’u, The Living Room, blossom , La Luciola, Trattoria, Mykonos, etc.

The Villa

Villa Samudra Raya is elegant in design centering around two large swimming pools with large open spaces surrounding by natural light, tropical gardens and stone fixtures giving the villa a feeling of absolute tranquility.
There are four large bedrooms and one child’s rooms and spacious dining and living areas, perfect for entertaining.
The living space/dining room opens to a garden full of lush tropical plants and a 12 meters family swimming pool. The use of large bi fold doors give a feeling of spaciousness and a huge timber dinning table for 10 and day bed for six make this area unforgettable.
The adjacent kitchen is fitted out with the latest electrical appliances, microwave, dishwasher, blender, steamer, toaster, etc. In the center of the kitchen there is a large island marble bench where your staff can prepare all the days’ meals and drinks for you whilst overlooking the pool and tropical garden.

Bedrooms

All five bedrooms are beautifully decorated with air conditioning, walk in wardrobes, and marble bathrooms with sunken baths overlooking tropical gardens and water features.
All four bedrooms have king size beds and one children’s room with bunks.

There is a fully equipped telephone connection, wireless broadband internet and theater room with a 104cm plasma TV surround sound Dvd/vcd and satellite system, to enjoy all your favorite sports and movie whilst relaxing on spacious lounges.

There is also a Japanese functional bar where you can enjoy having a drink whilst listening to your favorite songs. One lap pool 12 meters by 3 meters and family pool 12 meters by 4 meters. There also a private study room where you can enjoy quiet time for all your business needs.

Services

The refrigerator will be stocked with an initial supply of soft drinks and beer, coffee and tea, eggs and bread for your first breakfast. The bathrooms will be supplied with soap, shampoo, bath gel, cotton buds, tissues, etc.

If you’ve asked for dinner to be prepared for your first evening that will be ready on time, too.

All villa staff wears uniforms and consists of a good cook, maids, house boys, gardener, security guard, etc. They will take care of all routine work such as cleaning your villa, washing dishes, changing linen and towels, handling your laundry, etc. Your cook will do the shopping for groceries and prepare the meals of your choice. Villa Puri Tupai Ubud Bali consists of two traditional “Joglo” houses, incorporating the best of Javanese and Balinese architecture. Left wing and right wing. Left wing contains two bedrooms, main kitchen, living area, writing table. Right wing contains two bedrooms, bar area, day bed, and entertainment mezzanine lounge.

Bedrooms

There are total four bedrooms (three double and one twin) which can accommodate up to eight guests in genteel comfort. All bedrooms are with air-conditioning system and en-suite bathroom but without bathtub.

Living and Dining Area

As mentioned above that each “Joglo” is equipped with a spacious living area which surrounded by glass windows and doors. On the living area there is sofa, day lazy bed, writing table, bar are and kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern cooking utensils and operated by a good chef. The dining table seats 8 persons in total.

On the right wing there is an entertainment mezzanine lounge where there is the satellite TV, DVD and VCD Player. The stereo system is set to entertain the whole compound.

Swimming Pool

This large swimming pool is strategically positioned adjacent to the lawn tennis court to maximize the chance to enjoy the surrounding nature. Close to the pool, there are two more “Jineng” where guests may relax and spend the days.

A visit to Ombak Luwung will allow you to experience an entirely new dimension of beauty, peace and tranquility. Ombak Luwung means ‘magnificent waves’ in the Balinese language. In other words, Ombak Luwung creates the ideal environment to relax and enjoy the beautiful blue waters of the Indian Ocean, right at your doorstep. The name reflects the fact that the ever-changing view of the sea provides the backdrop for the buildings and its gardens. The pounding surf will set the rhythm of your stay here. Ombak Luwung is that very rare combination of absolute beach front and exclusive privacy, exquisitely realized in the form of a Balinese-style architectural masterpiece.

Every element in the design of Ombak Luwung contributes to the harmonious enjoyment of this special place. The placement of the structures, shrines, gardens and ornaments are all informed by ancient Balinese principals that will maximize the peace and well-being of its occupants.

The overall design is executed in traditional Balinese materials and organization. Each room is a separate structure, with simple elements of natural wood and stone topped with alang alang (thatched roofs), offset by intricate and fascinating decorative touches. Naturally, the entire complex is set within lush gardens. The combined effect of the fundamental design features create a sheltered and peaceful center courtyard, from which one’s attention is inevitably pulled to the wide-open spaces facing our stunning sea view.

From the main entrance, one proceeds down a shady pergola-covered walkway to the central plaza. On all sides, you will see massive stone mural-walls depicting scenes of Balinese village life. On your right stands a two-storey structure which floats on a giant lilly-pond. The ground floor of this building is configured as a study/library/media room and can also be used as a fifth bedroom with en-suite and outdoor shower. Upstairs, another bedroom provides sea views, an en-suite bathroom and a beautiful Chinese wedding bed.

Look to the left from the plaza and you will see the wantilan, a traditional Balinese living room. This is the heart of Ombak Luwung, with its comfortable sitting area looking out to the pool and the ocean beyond. The wantilan is complete with a powder room, wet kitchen and sound system for your enjoyment. Beside the wantilan is the kitchen and air-conditioned dining room with seating for up to ten.

Opposite the kitchen is a garden-view bedroom with king size bed and en-suite. This bedroom opens into a private courtyard with a massage pavilion and outdoor shower.

On either side of the wantilan, facing the sea, are two spectacular sea-view bedrooms with king size beds and en-suite. The bathroom of the master bedroom is separate pavilion, floating in its own pond and composed from black stone and terrazzo.

In front of it all an expansive deck serves the beautiful black stone swimming pool (8 meters x 16 meters), with 360 degree infinity edge. Choose from teak wood lounge chairs or relax in the cooling stone lounges facing the sea. There is also a large heated spa-pool for your relaxation. An intricately carved lumbung (rice barn) at the edge of the beach makes a perfect venue for viewing the stunning sunsets of Bali.

Location

Ombak Luwung is located at #1 Jalan Nelayan (Street of the Fisherman) in the Canggu village area. Canggu is located approximately half way between the tourist district of Kuta and the important Balinese temple of Tanah Lot. We are about 45 minutes’ drive from the international airport. Within walking distance you will find the world famous Canggu surf beach (also known as Echo Beach) and the Tugu Hotel, which boasts an amazing collection of Indonesian antiquities on display as well as an excellent restaurant. Half an hour’s drive North, adjacent to the Tanah Lot temple, you will find the Meridien Resort and Nirvana golf course, frequently described as the most beautiful golf course in the world.Going South towards Kuta and the airport, one comes to Seminyak and Legian with many fine restaurants and shopping opportunities.

Events

Ombak Luwung is an ideal venue for events such as weddings and family gatherings. Small functions of up to 15 persons can be handled by our own staff and using our own catering supplies. Functions of more than 15 persons will require additional staff and supplies and are subject to additional rental charges. Events of more than 20 persons will require the purchase of an entertainment license from the local village authorities and may require the hiring of an event coordinator. Our proximity to several important Balinese temples means that we may be asked to observe noise restrictions or curfews. Please enquire for further details – with adequate time to prepare, we can assure you an unforgettable event.

Food & Beverage

Guests may have any or all meals prepared by our staff. The timing of meals is entirely up to you. We only request that the staff be given some advance notice of very early or very late meal requirements. There is no charge for meal preparation, but the costs of all food and beverage purchases are borne by the guests. The kitchen staff will manage a shopping account for which guests will be responsible. Groceries are purchased at local markets or supermarkets as needed.
